Troy, NY has the honor of being known as the Collar Capital to the World, due in large part to what happened within the walls of 433 River Street, the former Cluett Peabody & Co. Inc. main factory and headquarters. Completed and in full use by the end of 1917, C.P.& Co. Inc. was the largest employer in the City of Troy and one of the largest in the Capital Region producing over 85% of the nation’s detachable collars. Production in the Troy plant ceased operations in 1982, with sales and operation staff remaining until 1989, when the company was officially sold to West Point-Pepperell Inc. and production was moved to Georgia. The building was purchased by John Hedley who underwent extensive renovations and was instrumental in bringing New York State offices to the building as well as other businesses.
In 2020, a brand-new rooftop event venue opened on the ninth floor of the Hedley Building. The modern Loft 433 has 15-foot windows overlooking the Hudson River and an outdoor patio with cozy fire pits. Nods to the building’s industrial beginnings can still be found throughout the space, such as an open ceiling exposing the ductwork and the original masonry walls. Capacity in the venue is 200 people for sit-down dinners with dancing. Mazzone Hospitality, the Capital Region’s premier event company, is the exclusive caterer for the space, bringing more than 30 years of event experience to the new Troy hotspot. Whether you’re planning a wedding, social celebration, or corporate event, Loft 433 and Mazzone Hospitality are sure to exceed your expectation.
